Friendship, Unity, & Christian Charity – Thanks to all the AOH Brothers & their families for volunteering to make this another successful Hooley! The Basilica of Saint Mary and the Frank Herbert-Pat Cady Division of the AOH raised more than $8,000 for Christ House Shelter during their 4th annual Saint Patrick Irish Hooley. The 50/50 raffle winner even donated his money back to Christ House. Murphy’s Grand Irish Pub (Owners AOH Brother Tom Mooney & Melinda Mooney) have donated the food and provided assistance for the event since its inception! About 400 people attended the sold-out celebration, which featured entertainment by musician Pat Garvey and the Boyle School of Irish Dance and guest appearance by AOH Brother Greg Smith’s daughter, Mary, who sang Danny Boy.
Honored guests included Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Diocese of Arlington, Rector & AOH Chaplain Very Reverend Hathaway of the Basilica of St. Mary, Sister Annie of Christ House, AOH Brother Jim McLaughlin (St. Patrick), Murphy’s Grand Irish Pub Owners Tom & Melinda Mooney, and the family of the late AOH Brother Pat Troy. The AOH presented flowers to Mrs. Troy, a Certificate of Appreciation to Brother McLaughlin, and shillelaghs to Bishop Burbidge, Father Hathaway, Sister Annie, and Mr. Mooney. The AOH also recognized Past President Terry Riley and his wife, Sandee, with a gift certificate to Cedar Knoll and flowers for all their efforts in supporting the AOH.
